The Al-Anon message is simply a story of HOPE. Women and men, who once felt alone and frustrated with dealing with the problem of alcoholism in a loved one, now are no longer lost or lonely. In Al-Anon they have learned simple steps to help themselves and their family deal with the cunning, baffling disease of alcoholism.
What is AL-Anon?
Al-Anon and Alateen Family Groups hold weekly meetings for the relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope, in order to solve problems associated with the family disease of alcoholism. We believe the disease affects all members of the family, and that changed attitudes can aid recovery.
Is Al-Anon for Me?
Al-Anon is for families, relatives, and friends whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking. If someone close to you, such as a family member, friend, co-worker, or neighbor, has or has had a drinking problem then Al-Anon may be right for you.
Millions of people are affected by the excessive drinking of someone close. Only you can decide whether the Al-Anon program is right for you. Your answers to one or more of the following questions may determine whether Al-Anon can help you. If you answer yes to any of the following, we welcome you to share our fellowship and the rich rewards that are certain to follow.
- Are you the wife, husband, relative, or friend of a problem drinker who still refuses help?
- Are you concerned with a member of AA who is still having trouble with alcohol?
- Though the alcoholic member of your life may now be sober, do you still feel your home life is insecure or difficult?
- Do you understand fully how alcoholism and its consequences may have warped your own thinking and personality?
- Do you know you can find understanding, friendship and help in the Al-Anon program whether the alcoholic has sobered up or not?
- Do you know that your own ability to face every life problem serenely and with a constructive attitude can be an important factor in helping your entire family recover from the problems caused by alcohol abuse in the family?
If you identify with some of the sentiments,
we encourage you to give Al-Anon or Alateen a try!
